Child Labour, an evil heard a lot, seen a lot, and unfortunately promoted a lot. Small children, whose hands are meant to write their thoughts, to paint their imagination, to play different games...are engaged in making fire crackers, stitching balls and stencilling bangles!!!!!.. Is this what you call “Childhood”!!!!
Do they enjoy doing this?? is this their hobby or something??? Obviously, no, not at all. They are persuaded to do so. Freedom has become a question for them. They are bounded in the shackles or work not meant for them...
What causes its existence??
There is a whole tree of reasons which catalyses this evil.. Though quite often they are persuaded by their parents to do so but the root cause lie in their “empty stomach” which makes them strive for even a simple demand of a “2 time meal”.
A large priority gap and inequality between rich and poor also serve as a major branch of this bitter fruit tree. The policy of “Rich getting richer and poor getting poorer” is getting well nourished in our country today’s scenario of governance.
The branch which well widespread this tree is “we people ourselves” or being more precise, our ignorance towards such issues. ”Chotu” has become a well-known symbol of child labour at thadis, small restros etc. We don’t even think of an evil like “Child Labour” while offering a tea by saying “Chotu, ek chai lana !!” On the other hand we are shouting against “wrongs”!!! .. Actually “You can’t clean something if your own hands are dirty”
The question that now arises is “What can we do?”. So, as literate people we know very well that an axe named “EDUCATION” can prove out to be an effective measure against it. Now its solely on your tactics how you use this axe effectively against Child Labour..
“Other than this i’m pretty much sure that most of us might be unaware of the punishment declared against the practice of Child Labour .It may land him in jail for 3yrs along with a fine of upto Rs.50,000/- for the children below 14 Years of age employed in any sort of works” . This may provide you a strong for your approach against child labour.”
“Sitting inside your homes and blaming the govt. or expressing your grief for anything wrong that is happening doesn’t affect anybody. Always remember that “People are concerned about what you do more than what you think”. So, implement what you think and set an example for others to do the same.”
